Locality
The Barossa has an interesting settlement history of both English and German people who arrived initially for quite different reasons. The early architecture reflects this difference particularly in the towns of Angaston and Tanunda and the village of Bethany which was planned like Medieval
villages in Europe.Town walks reveal a wealth of history for the interested visitor.
An area that has a strong focus on wine production naturally has a lot to offer the traveller with winery tours , tastings , dining experiences and the opportunity to make purchases of wine .
In addition, fruit processing continues to be important as well as marketing of a range of locally produced food products sourced in the area such as olive oil, pates , cheese pickles and sauces and preserves.
The native conservation parks, old gold diggings and rural properties with interesting homesteads and barns
can be a photographers delight.
Lovers of golf can play on top class greens. In the Ballooning season, the area provides an exhilerating early morning experience.

Strathlyn B&B in Angaston is a convenient location for day trips to the River Murray; eg; Mannum where the restored paddle steamer "Marion " is moored and river trips can be taken on weekends. As well, the old copper mining town of Kapunda is a short 20 minute drive away. The Clare Valley wine area is worth a day trip being only a drive of one and a half hours.
The city of Adelaide is only 80 kilometres away.
Property
Strathlyn House was built In 1905 by Fulton Salter, son of William who established Saltram Winery. The property originally extended over much of the land on the western side of Angaston. The land was used for fruit and grape production. In the mid 1940's the land was split into smaller holdings and Strathlyn Estate of 5 acres amid surrounding vineyards was formed. On the property was an old coach house originally for the Salter family horse and carriage. This two storey building has been restored and fitted out with extensive use of timber to become a unique cottage for two people.
Lemon Tree apartment was created to
be a stylish but comfortable retreat for two.
The elegantly furnished two Spa Garden Suites are under the roof of the main house but are quite private , having their own entrances from the garden.
The owner of the property is a qualified Beauty Therapist and Masseur and offers Stress relief packages as well as a whole range of skin and "Beauty " treatments in a clinic in the doownstairs part of the main house.
