Holiday apartment, Self-contained apartment

This lovely holiday apartment is in the charming old town of Beaucaire, gateway to Provence and Languedoc in the south of France. Its large private terrace faces the River Rhï¿½ne, with a view of the castle of Tarascon in Provence, just across the river. The handsome stone building was originally a rich merchant's mansion, named Hï¿½tel du Luxembourg.
Recently renovated and decorated with original art work, the apartment is quiet and sunny with 5 m (16 ft) high ceilings. It consists of three bedrooms, a living room, a kitchen/dining room with seating for seven, fully equipped with crockery, pots and pans etc, plus a bathroom and separate toilet. The spacious terrace, set out with potted plants, has a table and chairs for eight, shaded by two umbrellas. A great place to relax! Amenities include a home office with unlimited Internet access, washing machine, microwave, dishwasher, TV, VCR, DVD and stereo. Sheets and towels are provided. Two of the bedrooms have double beds and the third has two single beds. There is also a fold-out couch in the living room.
The apartment is within walking distance of all Beaucaireï¿½s attractions. Stroll along the river dike towards Beaucaireï¿½s picturesque ruined castle, or enjoy a meal or a petit cafï¿½ in the cafes and restaurants in the picturesque old square just around the corner. Walk through narrow 17th century streets to the lively canal promenade and the open-air markets and shops.
Situated in the center of the ï¿½Golden Triangleï¿½ of Nï¿½mes, Avignon and Arles, the ancient town of Beaucaire (From "Bel Caire" - Beautiful Stone in Provenï¿½al) provides the perfect base for exploring Provence and the Camargue. Nearby attractions include Roman amphitheaters, castles, medieval villages, Van Gogh landscapes, open-air markets, horse-riding, wine-tasting and boating. Enjoy the splendors of Provence and the Languedoc combined with the comforts of home!

Dick and I had the perfect holiday week in Beaucaire. The apartment was charming, parking was easy and the local markets (in Beaucaire or nearby towns almost every day) were spectacular. This location was ideal for easy day trips and Beaucaire itself was not touristy so it felt very comfortable. Barney and Madeleine have thought of every need for their guests; the kitchen, the internet access and the abundant tourist information and suggestions were very much appreciated.

Locality

Situated in the center of the "Golden Triangle" of Nï¿½mes, Avignon and Arles in the south of France, the ancient town of Beaucaire (From "Bel Caire" - Beautiful Stone in Provenï¿½al) provides the perfect base for exploring Provence and the Camargue. Beaucaire prides itself on being at the crossroads, "entre le roseau and l'olivier" - between the reeds of Camargue and the olives of Provence. Its location has made it an important settlement since Roman times and the site of many a bloody conflict. Dominated by the ruins of a magnificent castle high on a rock and bounded by the Rhone on one side and the Canal Du Rhone ï¿½ Sete on another, the town used to be a magnet for traders from all over Europe, who came for its renowned annual fair. Today, it remains largely untouched by time and below the tourist radar, a chance to enjoy a genuine taste of French provincial life.
